GRINDING TIMES

Your Cuisinart® Supreme Grind™ Automatic Burr Mill is fully automatic. There are 6 settings per grind type, and the grind chamber holds enough ground coffee for up to 32 cups. The unit is set for medium grind settings, which takes approximately 40 seconds to grind coffee for 12 cups, and approximately 55 seconds 18 cups.

When choosing fine settings, you may need to set the cup selector at a higher number of cups to get the desired amount of coffee, as fine grinds are very compact. The opposite is true for coarse settings. You may need to set the cup selector at a larger number of cups to get the desired amount of coffee, as coarse grinds are very loose. To determine the right grind consistencies and quantities, experiment with different grinds and coffee types to suit your taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it OK to put a small amount of coffee in the hopper (e.g., enough for one cup) and let the timer turn off after the hopper has been depleted?

Probably, but you’re far better off using a simple blade grinder such as the Krups. I have a fancy burr grinder that I use for drip, but for my AeroPress I use my Krups oval shaped electric blade grinder. It’s under $20 and has been a workhorse for years. When doing my morning cup with my AeroPress (which I highly recommend) there is zero heat build up (see later) for the 17g – 19g that I grind, and zero mess. I grind, tip it over and give it a tap, that’s it, no cleanup. Some grounds stick to the inside of the grinder, but I leave them there, no need to scrape them out as they don’t interfere with the freshly ground coffee. The AeroPress works best with finely ground coffee so a blade grinder is ideal. If you’re doing one cup at a time you don’t need a burr grinder. Don’t listen to anyone that says you do because it’s a myth perpetrated all over the place, but completely baseless. There’s hardly any heat generated in the ten seconds it takes to grind with a blade grinder.

Can it be used as a grain mill?

This thing has been a workhorse! I use it for grinding whole oats with hulls (sometimes sunflower seeds too) to make up horse feed 2x a day. I grind 4-5 cups each feeding with the setting on coarse, and after almost 2 1/2 years it is just now getting a little dull and heating up to where it quits on me toward the end of the 5th cup. I am getting ready to purchase again even though the first one is still working… just not quite as well. It has never let me down! I have been very happy, considering I have not been using it for its intended use.

What is it’s capacity?

I believe it is 8 to 10 cups. I have a bun pour over machine, and the decanter say’s its 10 cups. I fill that to the top with water, and I set the grinder for 8 cups. then it is your preference to set your grind on what you like. My 8 cups I will use 4 scoops in the coffee grind holder. Then I choose I think the setting is 4 , not sure will have to check. It makes us wonderful coffee.

Does this product hold a warranty? If so, how long is it?

According to the pamphlet, the product carries a Limited 18-Month Warranty (for consumers only).

How to reduce mess when grinding?

Make sure the clear plastic lid is on the grinding receptacle. Otherwise, let it sit for a big so the static electricity reduces. It’s definitely still messy.

Does this leave a mess from grinding? Does it make a lot of dust?

I bought one of these for my office a few years back. The plastic grinding receptacle resulted in a LOT of static, and the “fines” would fly out all over the place, making a real mess every single time. This is a major deal-breaker for my home. If your environment is not susceptible to static, your “mileage” may vary, but keep in mind I live in hot, humid Georgia and STILL had problems with this.

How many watts is the motor?

The motor is 140 watts. Made in China.

Is this grinder BPA free?

No

I use the aeropress coffee maker. What setting should I use to grind the coffee for that device? Fine? One dot to the right of fine?

My Aeropress is still new, but I have gone as low as the Fine 6th setting (one dot below the Medium 1-6) and the resulting brew is still smooth, and not bitter. From the other reviews, I think I will make sure to give the burrs a good cleaning before and after I grind anything finer. Sounds like the burrs get caked, and put too much stress on the motor.

Can I grind sesame into sesame powder?

I bet u can. I have even put coffee grounds in to grind it finer for the expresso maker.

How can you clean the interior parts that get a build up of coffee gunk? It doesn’t seem to come apart.

Apparently, you can unscrew the coffee bean container by turning it counter-clockwise (or clockwise) to clean close to the grinding mechanism. The grinder does come with a user guide.

What is the recycling number or type of the grinder’s plastic parts (e.g. #5 or ABS)?

The plastic number on the catch bin for grounds is 7; there is no number on the hopper, but it appears to be the same material.

Can you grind dehydrated greend?

No clue it would depend onthe size of the item. It can not be much bigger that a coffee bean due to the feeding setup. It is powerful enough to grind

Does it make a good spice grinder?

I used it to grind ginger and cinnamon and it did great. The only thing is residuals from the previous spice is still in the gears. Overall I would not use it for spices as no way to really clean it 100% when switching from one spice to another.
