Built-in compressor protection
Message flashes until safe restart time has elapsed.
- This feature helps prevent damage to the compressor in your air conditioning or heat pump system.
- Damage can occur if the compressor is restarted too soon after shutdown. This feature forces the compressor to wait 5 minutes before restarting.
- During the wait time, the display will flash the message Cool On (or Heat On if you have a heat pump). When the safe wait time has elapsed, the message stops flashing and the compressor turns on.
Battery replacement
- Install two fresh AAA batteries when Lo Batt flashes on the screen. LoBatt appears for 60 days before the batteries are depleted.
- Replace batteries once a year, or when you will be away for more than a month.
- Most settings are stored in nonvolatile (permanent) memory. Only the clock and the day must be set after you replace the batteries.
Set the System switch to Off before removing the batteries. Otherwise, the heating/cooling system could remain activated even when batteries are removed.

Frequently Asked Questions
This unit does not have a slot for the 24volt C (Common) wire. If you have a C-wire, I’d find a different unit and take advantage of it and forget the batteries.
When the thermostat has the “Smart Response/Adaptive Intelligent Recovery” enabled, the thermostat will learn how long it takes the HVAC system to heat or cool. The thermostat will then start the programmed schedule early to reach the selected temperature setpoint by the desired time. It will take a few days for the thermostat to learn how long it will take.
You can override the schedule using the temporary or the permanent hold. A temporary hold will override the schedule until the next period of the schedule starts while a permanent hold sill overrides the schedule until you press the ‘Run’ button to resume the schedule.
The timer/temperature can be set for a 5 day work week routine (temp is lower from the time household members usually go to bed to when they usually get up). There is also a weekend scheduling option that can be adjusted if household members usually stay up later and perhaps sleep later on the weekends.
As long as you don’t place a hold on the temperature, when the set time for change occurs your settings will be obeyed by the program setting.
The Honeywell Home 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostat works with 24v baseboard heaters. -Jerry
if you use the up/down button until you see your desired temperature, the thermostat will change to a temporary hold which will hold that temperature until the next period of the schedule starts. If you use the up/down until you see your desired temperature and then press ‘Hold’ will change the thermostat to a permanent hold that will keep your set temperature until you change it again manually.
The battery life might vary based on application and usage, however, Honeywell recommends changing them at least once a year to avoid your thermostat from corrosion.
Hi, thanks for reaching out! The RTH2300B thermostat only measures temperature.
This model does not have a passcode.
This thermostat will work with a 3 wire system.
Yes, the Honeywell Home RTH2300B1038 can be programmed to not run the heat on the weekends or at night.
I replaced a Hunter thermostat that was 25 years old. It was heat-only, with 2 wire connection.
Yes. I replaced my mercury therm. with one. the only issue I had was the instructions do not show wiring for a 2-wire system. I called the help number on the instructions and was told how to connect it.
We recommend checking how the wires were connected before or each wire’s functionality as we don’t follow color code. Wires should match the furnace designations (R-R, Y-Y, and so on).
The only way I have been able to turn off those irritating time sets is to remove the batteries and reinstall them.
I cannot get this one to run at all because my a/c requires an extra wire terminal. So I don’t know what it dose. Make sure you have the right thermostat type first.
I think so. It comes with directions for how to match up the wires.
