Oxygen Flow Control Regulators

Oxygen flow control regulators reduce pressure from a cylinder to levels which can be safely used by the user. Oxygen flow control regulators are intended for administration of oxygen to patients who need increased oxygen levels to improve their breathing conditions. In addition, some models may be used in emergency situations. In any emergency situation, be sure to contact a physician or EMS immediately. The regulator is to be used by or after instruction from a trained healthcare professional.

NOTE: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS & WARNINGS BEFORE ATTEMPTING SETUP AND USE
This manual instructs a professional to install and operate the regulator. This is provided for your safety and to prevent damage. If you do not understand this manual, DO NOT USE regulator and contact your provider.

RECEIVING/INSPECTION

Remove the Roscoe Regulator from packaging and inspect for damage. If there is any damage, DO NOT USE and contact your provider.

SET UP INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Inspect and install the cylinder using instructions of a qualified professional.

CGA-870 CONNECTION

  • Check cylinder valve to ensure it is not bent or damaged. Be sure to purge the cylinder valve of debris.
  • Inspect the regulator for oil or grease. If these are visible, DO NOT use the regulator.
  • Ensure the sealing washer is in place on the yoke inlet.
  • Inspect washer — the washer should be free of cracks and debris. If either exists, the washer should be replaced immediately.
  • Slip the yoke over the cylinder post and fit the pins into the hole on the cylinder valve. The pins should fit easily into these holes.
  • Turn the T-handle clockwise until the screw point is seated in the dimple on the cylinder valve. Ensure the regulator is tightened snugly onto the cylinder.
  • Attach the oxygen supply tubing to the barbed outlet connection.

CGA-540 CONNECTION

  • Check cylinder valve to ensure it is not bent or damaged. Be sure to purge the cylinder valve of debris.
  • Inspect the regulator for oil or grease. If these are visible, DO NOT use the regulator.
  • Gently thread the large nut on the regulator onto the connection on the cylinder valve.
  • Tighten the nut with a wrench until secure.
  • Attach the oxygen supply tubing to the barb or the humidifier to the DISS outlet of the regulator.

REGULATOR USE

  • Ensure the regulator is in the “off” position by rotating the flow selector knob counterclockwise to the “0” position.
  • For safety, be sure you are not directly in front of or behind the regulator when opening the cylinder valve.
  • SLOWLY turn the cylinder valve on (counterclockwise), about one full turn.

NOTE: If you can hear a hissing sound, there is a leak in the system. Turn the cylinder off and turn the regulator on to relieve any built-up pressure. Retighten the regulator to the cylinder and open the cylinder valve again. If this does not correct the issue, shut the system down again and contact your provid-er. NEVER attempt to repair a regulator or cylinder yourself. If you suspect leakage, inspect
and/or replace the yoke washer.

  • Adjust the flow rate setting by turning the knob clockwise until the prescribed setting shows through the window. For emergency situations, this should be at least 6 lpm.
  • If the cylinder pressure falls below 300 psi, the cylinder should be exchanged for a full one.
  • To turn off the system, close the cylinder valve, wait for oxygen to flow out of the regulator and turn the flow selector knob counterclockwise to “0.”
  • NEVER try to remove the regulator unless the cylinder is off and pressure has been relieved.

MAINTENANCE/CLEANING

  • Disconnect all connections before cleaning.
  • Clean exterior surfaces of the regulator with a clean cloth dampened with a disinfectant containing Sporicidin® or equivalent.
  • Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
  • Store the regulator in a clean area free from grease, oil, or other sources of contamination.
  • DO NOT use cleaning solutions.
  • DO NOT attempt to repair the regulator.

WARNINGS
FEDERAL LAW RESTRICTS THIS DEVICE TO USE BY OR ON ORDER OF A PHYSICIAN. ONLY USE AS PRESCRIBED BY A PHYSICIAN.

  • This item should be used only on patients who are breathing; DO NOT use to resuscitate non-breathing patients.
  • DO NOT use with oil, grease or any other flammable material. Keep out of reach of children. DO NOT smoke in an area where oxygen is in use.
  • DO NOT use this equipment unless you have been trained in its proper use or are under supervision of someone trained in its use.
  • If the pressure relief valve on the underside of the regulator begins to vent oxygen, turn off the system and remove the unit until it can be serviced.
  • Use ONLY manufacturer approved replacement parts.
  • Handle the regulator carefully at all times and use the regulator according to the instructions in this manual.
  • The oxygen cylinder should be in an upright position at all times when in use.
  • ALWAYS confirm prescribed flow before administering to patient and monitor flow on a frequent basis.
  • DO NOT use near any type of flame or flammable/explosive substances, vapors or atmosphere.
  • DO NOT use tape, oils, greases, petroleum jellies, organic lubricants, paint or any other hydrocarbon based or combustible materials on or near the regulator.
  • Prior to handling the regulator and cylinder valve, ensure hands are free of oil, grease and other contaminates.
  • DO NOT use regulator if oil, grease or dirt is found on or around any surfaces. Particles propelled in a high-velocity oxygen stream could create a spark, causing a fire. Oil and grease can react with oxygen and other oxidizers, causing an explosion.
  • There is NO FLOW between settings. The liter flow number must be clearly positioned in the window indicator.
  • DO NOT use tools to tighten T-handle. This can lead to overtightening and will cause damage to the regulator.
  • DO NOT immerse the regulator in any kind of liquid. This will void the warranty.
  • If there is any damage to the regulator, gauge or any parts, discontinue use immediately and call your provider.
