Getting started

Location
Important
Do not place your VM36XL TOUCH CONNECT in the bathroom or other humid areas. Place your units within reach of the AC power outlet and wall socket. The socket-outlet should be installed near the equipment and should be easily accessible.
Setting up
Important
The baby (camera) unit must be plugged into the wall socket at all times. Use only the AC power adaptor supplied with the product.

Connecting the baby (camera) unit

  1. Plug the USB type-C plug of the power adaptor into the power socket on the rear of the baby (camera) unit and plug the other end of the AC adaptor into the wall socket.
  2. Switch on the AC power.

Connecting and charging the parent unit

A rechargeable battery is already pre-installed inside the parent unit. When fully charged, you can move the parent unit without losing the link and picture from the baby (camera) unit.

  1. Plug the USB type-C plug of the power adaptor into the power socket on the side of the parent unit and plug the other end of the AC adaptor into the wall socket.
  2. Switch on the AC power.
  3. When charging the batteries for the first time, charge for at least 16 hours continuously.
  4. Press and hold the power button on the top of the parent unit to turn it on.
  5. When the parent unit is fully chargedMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-3, will appear steadily on the display.

Battery low warning

IfMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-5 is shown on the display, recharge the parent unit before using it again.

Battery performance
In ideal conditions, fully charged batteries should give up to 5 hours usage time.
The charge capacity of the rechargeable battery will reduce with time as it wears out, giving the parent unit less usage/standby time. Eventually, it will need to be replaced. Batteries and the parent unit may become warm during charging. This is normal.

Note
Depending on the video settings, the display will go blank after 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes to save power.
Registering the baby (camera) unit to the parent unit (Pairing)
The video baby monitor is pre-registered to your parent unit. You do not need to register it again unless the baby (camera) unit loses its link with the parent unit.
To re-register your baby (camera) unit, see the following steps.

  1. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-34on the menu bar.
  2. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-14 will pop up.
  3. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-15 to select a desired camera. The parent unit starts searching the baby (camera) unit.
    Note
    A baby (camera) unit can be paired only to one parent unit each time. If a baby (camera) unit is currently paired with the parent unit, it will appear in dark grey on the screen and cannot be selected for a new registration.
  4. Press and hold PAIR on the underside of the baby (camera) unit until the parent unit finds the baby (camera) unit and Pair OK appears on the screen.
    The video from the baby (camera) unit will then appear.

Using the video baby monitor

  • Swipe up at the screen bottom to pop up the menu bar. Swipe down at the screen bottom to hide the menu bar.

  • Swipe left or right to pan the camera view.
  • Swipe up or down to tilt the camera view.

Note
The touch screen can be operated normally during camera viewing but it stops functioning when the menu bar is displayed.
If you place the parent and baby (camera) units too close together, you may hear a high-pitched noise. This is not a fault. The units are designed to be operated at some distance apart, e.g. in separate rooms, so move the units further apart.
If Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-12is displayed on the screen, the parent and baby (camera) units are not linked to each other. Make sure that both units are powered on.

Adjust the brightness on the parent unit

  1. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-19on the menu bar of the parent unit. The brightness status bar pops up.
  2. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-20 or swipe the brightness status bar left or right to select the brightness level. There are 8 levels to choose from.

Zoom the screen

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-21 on the menu bar of the parent unit. The zoom status bar pops up.
  2. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-22 or swipe the zoom status bar left or right to select 1x or 4x zoom.

Enable audio media playback
You can play back pre-recorded personal or preloaded audio content (lullabies, soothing sounds and English audiobooks) on the baby (camera) unit to soothe the baby. There are 10 preloaded lullabies/soothing sounds and 10 audiobooks in the baby (camera) unit.
Pre-recorded personal content playback
You can play back your personal content after recording the audio through the App.

  1. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-23on the menu bar of the parent unit. The options menu pops up.
  2. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-24 to view the names of your recordings displayed on the screen.
  3. Tap to select the desired recording and start/stop playback.

Lullabies/soothe sounds playback

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-23 on the menu bar of the parent unit. The options menu pops up.
  2. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-25to view the names of lullabies or soothe sounds displayed on the screen.
  3. Tap to select the desired lullaby or soothe sound and start/stop playback.

English audiobook playback

  1. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-23on the menu bar of the parent unit. The options menu pops up.
  2. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-26 to view the names of audiobooks displayed on the screen.
  3. Tap to select the desired audiobook and start/stop playback.

Adjust the volume level of audio playback

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-23 on the menu bar of the parent unit. The options menu pops up.
  2. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-27 on the options menu. The volume status bar pops up.
  3. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-28 to select the volume level. There are 4 levels to choose from.

Turn the flashlight on or off
TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-29 on the menu bar of the parent unit to turn on/off the flashlight.

Set the timer

You can set timers on the parent unit to remind you or caregivers of the time to feed the baby, change the baby’s diaper or put the baby to bed.

  1. Tap on the menu bar of the parent unit.
  2. Tap on to turn on the timer, then tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-31 to select the time. Each key press represents an interval of 15 minutes, up to an interval of 6 hours.
  3. If the next feeding time is 4 hours later, press Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-31 to adjust the timer until 04:00 is displayed.
  4. Tap set to confirm the time, will appear on the status bar.
  5. The parent unit will beep when the time limit is reached. Press any key to stop the timer.

Two-way talk
You can use the Talk Back feature to comfort and reassure your baby. Whilst using Talk Back you will not be able to hear your baby until you release the button.

  3. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-32on the menu bar to turn off the talk back feature.

Use the camera
Pair or add a camera with the parent unit
See ‘Registering the baby (camera) unit to the parent unit (Pairing)’ on page 13.
 View a camera

  1. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-13on the menu bar of the parent unit.
  2. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-35 will pop up.
  3. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-36 to select the desired camera to view the picture from that camera. The selected camera will appear in dark grey on thescreen.

Remove a camera

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-13 on the menu bar of the parent unit.
  2. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-36 will pop up.
  3. Tap Motorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-36 to select the desired camera to remove it from registration.
    Note
    You cannot remove the camera if it is the only registered camera in the parent unit.

Use the patrol mode
This function is available if you have more than one baby (camera) unit.

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-34 on the menu bar of the parent unit.
  2. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-37 will pop up.
  3. The screen will display images from different registered cameras every 12 seconds.

Set the temperature unit
The baby (camera) unit has a temperature sensor that can detect the baby room temperature.

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-38 on the menu bar of the parent unit. °C / °F will pop up on the screen.
  2. Tap °C or °F to confirm the temperature format.

Power saving mode

  1. TapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-40 the in the menu bar of the parent unit, the screen off timer: off, 5m, 15m or 30m (m = minutes) will pop up.
  2. Select a screen off time.
  3. The screen will be off after the time limit is reached.
  4. Tap once on the screen to wake it up. Tap twice to open the menu bar.
    Note
    You can still hear the audio when the screen is off.

View multiple cameras on the screen
This function is available if you have more than one baby (camera) unit. When the split screen function is on, you can view multiple cameras on the screen and have a list of options.

  • To turn on or off the split screen function, tapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-42 on the menu bar of the parent unit.
  • To select another screen, tap on the selected screen once.
  • To hide or display the menu bar of that screen, tap on the selected screen twice.

When a user tries to access the Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit), our server authenticates the user’s identity and permits access to the Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit).
Note
You can only set up through a compatible smartphone or tablet but not through a PC.

Set up the camera
Connect the Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit) to the power adaptor, then plug into the wall socket. The camera must be within range of the Wi-Fi® router with which you want to connect. Make sure the password of the router is available for entering during the in-app setup process.
The following table shows the meanings of different LED connection status.

Set up user account and camera on your devices
You will need:

  • Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit)
  • Power adaptor for the camera
  • Device with Android™ system version 7.0 and above, or
  • iPhone®/iPad® with iOS version 10.0 and above

Connect the Camera

  1. Switch off the parent unit before connecting the camera (baby unit) to Wi-Fi®.
  2. Connect the power adaptor to the power outlet and insert the plug into the power socket on the back of the camera (baby unit). The camera turns on.

Download the App

  1. Scan the QR code with your smart device and download the Motorola

  2. Install the App on your device.

Sign up or log in to the App

  1. Ensure that your smart device is connected to your Wi-Fi® router.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to run and sign up or log in to the APP.

Add a camera to your account

  1. Log in to the APP.
  2. Tap Devices, and then tapMotorola Baby Monitor VM36XL Portable Video Baby Monitor with Camera-45 on the device screen to add a new camera.
  3. Tap (your baby monitor model’s name) to add the new camera.
  4. Select and enter the password of your Wi-Fi® network and then tap Next.
  5. Power on the camera.
  6. Press and hold PAIR at the bottom of the camera. The LED flashes blue and red.
  7. Tap Continue on your device when you hear the voice prompt ‘Ready for pairing’.
  8. Tap Generate QR code on your device and hold the QR code 15 cm to 30 cm in front of the camera to get scanned till you will hear a confirmation message ‘Pairing success’ from your device.
  9. Tap Complete when it is successfully connected. It may take a few minutesfor the camera to connect to the Wi-Fi® network.
  10. If connection fails, tap Retry and repeat steps 1 – 10 in this section.

Reset the camera
You will need to reset your camera if you relocate your camera from one router to another.

  1. Press and hold PAIR for about 20 seconds. Release it when you hear the voice prompt ‘Reset camera’. The camera is reset successfully.
  2. follow section 4.3.5 to add the camera again.

Help

No display

  • Try recharging the battery pack.
  • Reset the parent and baby (camera) units. Unplug both the units’ from the wall socket, then plug them back in.
  • Check if the parent/baby (camera) unit is switched on.
  • Press and hold the power button on the parent unit to switch it on.
  • Make sure the correct camera is selected. Change the camera number if necessary.
  • Make sure the display of the parent unit is turned on.
  • When operating using batteries only, the display will go blank after 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 30 minutes to save power (depending on video settings). The parent unit is still active and will give you audio alerts. You can press any button to reactivate the screen.

The baby (camera) unit has lost its link with the parent unit.

  • The baby (camera) unit is too far away and may be out of range. Move the it closer to the parent unit.
  • Disconnect both the parent and baby (camera) units from the power outlet.
    Wait for about 15 seconds and reconnect them. Allow up to one minute for the parent and baby (camera) units to synchronize.
  • Re-register your baby (camera) unit if necessary, see page 13.

Noise interference on your parent unit

  • The baby and parent units may be too close with each other. Move them further apart.
  • Make sure there is at least 3 to 6 feet between the parent and baby (camera) units to avoid audio feedback.
  • The baby (camera) unit is too far away and may be out of range. Move the it closer to the parent unit.
  • Make sure the parent and baby (camera) units are not placed near other electrical equipment, such as a television, computer or cordless/mobile telephone. Move the parent and baby (camera) units 5 feet away from
    other electrical equipment.
  • Use of other 2.4 GHz products, such as wireless networks (Wi- Fi® routers), Bluetooth™ systems, or microwave ovens, may cause interference with this product. Keep the parent and baby (camera) units at least 5 feet away from these types of products, or switch them off if they appear to be causing interference.
  • If the signal is weak, try moving the parent and/or baby (camera) units to different positions in rooms.
  • Noise interference on your device
  • To avoid background noise or echoes, ensure there is enough distance between your device and the Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit).
  • Use of other 2.4 GHz products, such as wireless networks (Wi-Fi® routers), Bluetooth™ systems, or microwave ovens, may cause interference with this product. Keep the parent and baby (camera) units at least 5 feet away from these types of products, or switch them off if they appear to be causing interference.

Lost connection

  • Check your Wi-Fi® settings and reconnect your Wi-Fi® if necessary. Ensure the Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit) is switched on. Wait for a few minutes for the Wi-Fi® camera (baby unit) to connect with the Wi-Fi® system.

Forgot the password

  • If you do not remember your password, tap Forgot Password and submit your email address. A new password will be sent to your e-mail address immediately.

Cleaning and care
Important
Always switch off and disconnect the power adaptor before cleaning your video baby monitor.

  • Clean your video baby monitor with a slightly damp cloth or with an antistatic cloth. Never use cleaning agents or abrasive solvents.
  • Do not clean any part of the video baby monitor with thinners or other solvents and chemicals – this may cause permanent damage to the product which is not covered by the warranty.
  • Keep your video baby monitor away from hot, humid areas or strong sunlight, and do not let it get wet.
  • Every effort has been made to ensure high standards of reliability of your

Disposal of the Device (environment)

At the end of the product life cycle, you should not dispose of this product with normal household waste. Take this product to a collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. The symbol on the product, user guide and/or box indicates this. Some of the product materials can be re-used if you take them to a recycling point. By reusing some parts or raw materials from used products you make an important contribution to the protection of the environment. Please contact your local authorities in case you need more information on the collection points in your area. This Limited Warranty is your exclusive warranty and is not transferable.
Who is covered?
This warranty extends only to the first consumer purchaser and is not transferable.

What will MZGW do?
MZGW or its authorized distributor at its option and within a commercially reasonable time, will at no charge repair or replace any Products or Accessories that do not conform to this limited warranty. We may use functionally equivalent reconditioned/refurbished / pre-owned or new Products, Accessories or parts.

What Other Limitations Are There?

Exclusions

Normal Wear and Tear. Periodic maintenance, repair and replacement of parts due to normal wear and tear are excluded from coverage.
Batteries. Only batteries whose fully charged capacity falls below 80% of their rated capacity and batteries that leak are covered by this limited warranty.

Abuse & Misuse. Defects or damage that result from: (a) improper operation, storage, misuse or abuse, accident or neglect, such as physical damage (cracks, scratches, etc.) to the surface of the product resulting from misuse; (b) contact with liquid, water, rain, extreme humidity or heavy perspiration, sand, dirt or the like, extreme heat, or food; (c) use of the Products or Accessories for commercial purposes or subjecting the Product or Accessory to abnormal usage or conditions; or (d) other acts which are not the fault of Motorola or
MZGW are excluded from coverage.
Use of Non-Motorola branded Products and Accessories. Is it sure that the camera device has 3h with no energy cable, just using its own battery?

In my experience, yes. My toddlers sometimes nap for 2-3 hours and I never have to plug it in! It’s the best monitor I’ve had hands down!

Pair the monitor with the camera there is a place under the camera to hold down and pair.
