HOME SCALE RX Whole House Scale Reduction System
Product Information
The product is a Sharkbite fitting that connects to a copper piping system. It is used to join two pieces of copper pipestogether. The fittings are not electrically continuous, so when connecting them to a copper piping system, it is necessary to
install a copper jumper cable to ensure proper grounding.
Product Usage Instructions
- Before starting the installation process, ensure that there isenough space to work around any pipe fittings or obstacles.
- Locate the main water shut-off valve and shut off the water supply to the house.
- Open a faucet on the lowest level of your home to drain the water line.
- Measure and mark the point on the copper pipe where the Sharkbite fitting will be installed.
- Cut the copper pipe cleanly and squarely using a pipe cutter or shears. Measure 10-5/8 in. from the pipe and cut it at that point.
- Remove any burrs or rough edges from the pipe using a pipe deburring tool.
- Measure 1-1/8 in. from each end of the cut pipe and mark it.
- With a slight twisting motion, insert the first Sharkbite fitting onto the pipe until it reaches the tube stop. Lightly pullon the fitting to ensure it is seated properly. When fully seated, the mark made previously should be less than 1/16 in. from the end of the fitting. Repeat this step for the second fitting.
- After installing both fittings, turn on the main water shut-off valve and inspect for any leaks.
- Do not over-tighten the Sharkbite fittings as it could cause damage and lead to water leakage.

LET’S GET STARTED
- so you will want to leave enough space to work around any pipe fittings or obstacles.
- Install using 1 in. tapered NPT threads with PTFE tape or with the included SharkBite™ adapters on ¾ in. hard copper (Types K, L, and M), PEX, CPVC, PE-RT, and HDPE pipe.
- ScaleRx® Home may be installed horizontally or vertically, either indoors or outdoors– although we do not recommend using the included SharkBite™ adapters outdoors (SharkBite™ Installation Instructions).
- Locate the main water shut-off valve and shut off the water supply to the house.
- Open a faucet on the lowest level of your home to drain the water line.
- Place a bucket under the section of pipe where you will install ScaleRx® Home.
- If using the SharkBite™ fittings, wrap included PTFE tape three to four times clockwise around the male threads (MNPT) of both fittings. Next, hand-tighten the fittings into each end of ScaleRx® Home, and then rotate one complete turn using the 1-½ in. adjustable wrenches to ensure a water-tight seal.
- Measure, mark, and cut 10-5/8 in. from the pipe as cleanly and squarely as possible using pipe cutter or shears.
- Remove burrs or rough edges from pipe using a pipe deburring tool.
- Measure 1-1/8 in. from each end of the cut pipe and mark.
- Ensure flow direction arrow on ScaleRx® Home points in the direction of water flow.
- With a slight twisting motion, insert the first fitting onto the pipe until it reaches the tube stop. Lightly pull on the fitting to make sure it is seated. When fully seated, the mark made previously should be less than 1/16 in. from the end of the fitting. Repeat steps for second fitting.
- Fittings may be rotated or adjusted after installation. Should you need to remove fittings, use ¾ in. SharkBite™ Disconnect Clip or Disconnect Tongs — both sold
separately at most home improvement stores. - Lastly, turn on the main water shut-off valve and inspect for leaks.
OPERATION
- ScaleRx® doesn’t require any maintenance.
- Over time you may notice existing scale begin to break up and flush through the pipes.
- ScaleRx® can become clogged if the incoming water contains sediment. We recommend using a filter with a minimum of 50 microns to remove large particles upstream of ScaleRx® .
- ScaleRx® Home installation is simple but requires basic plumbing knowledge. If you are uncomfortable with basic plumbing work, please get in touch with a licensed plumber.
- When connecting a Sharkbite fitting to a copper piping system, install a copper jumper cable to ensure proper grounding. Sharkbite fittings are not an electrically continuous fitting.
- Do not over tighten or damage could occur and cause a water leak.

LIMITED WARRANTY:
American Valve warrants, to its initial purchaser only, that its ScaleRX Ion Polarization System products which are delivered to the initial purchaser will be the kind described in the order or price list it maintained and operated in accordance with American Valve’s recommendation and standard industry practice, correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at American Valve’s own expense.
If any ScaleRX Ion Polarization System alleged to be defective, is returned to our factory at Greensboro, NC, it will be examined and, if found to be defective under the warranty, it will be replaced at no charge.
THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IS IN LIEU OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR OTHER WARRANTY OF QUALITY,WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, EXCEPT THE WARRANTY OF TITLE AND AGAINST PATENT INFRINGEMENT. Correction of non-conformities, in the manner and for the period of time provided above, shall constitute fulfillment of all liabilities of American Valve to our initial purchaser, with respect to the goods, whether based on contract, negligence, strict tort or otherwise. It is the intention of American Valve that no warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, shall pass through our initial purchaser to any other person or corporation.
