GMC Fuel Filter Replacement [1990-2008] Instruction

Hey, I’m Sean from Easy Fix…
Today I’m going to show you how to put on a fuel filter on a GM product.

Gm trucks in particular.

I’m going to show you how to do it And I’m going to use a method that works really well on rusty fuel lines, which is a common issue once these fuel filters come to be a few years old.

So I’m going to show you how to do that And this thing definitely is rusty And that’s coming up next.

Okay….

We need hand tools only for this project, and this will cover most Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

We need a filter pliers, A-5-8 line wrench, 13 16 regular wrench, hand and eye protection, and a fuel drain pan.

On this project, we need some extra tools, zip ties and zip tie cutters.

So Let’s get started.

Okay…..

Step 1. You need to locate the fuel filter and most Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

It’s underneath the driver’s seat area.

If there’s enough room to slide under this frame rail, you can do this without lifting the truck.

Step 2. Let’s get a closer look at this filter before replacement.

Note: Please note that gasoline, fuel and vapors are extremely flammable. This should only be performed in a well ventilated area with no ignition sources nearby.

Step 3. Next, we need to remove the special quick connector.

• Squeeze the white portion of the quick connector with pliers or with your fingers.
• It should take only a light amount of squeeze pressure toget this white clip to release simultaneously.
• Use light pressure to pull on the black portion of the line with a little bit of wiggling.
• It should separate.

Place your drain pan under the filter.

• You’re going to get about two to 4 ounces of raw feel here.
• Okay, get your wrenches ready.
• Do not spin this line up.

• If it’s rusty, you can spin the line and break the line.

• So you want to keep that nut stationary on this Union here, so only move the filter portion of this connection.

There we go.

Step 4: Now, we should hopefully be able to just spin this filter off and remove it.

Okay….

• Once everything is close to drained, we can reverse the process.
• Step one, Make sure the new filter is a perfect match to the old.
• Check the line o ring.
• It can be reused.

If there’s any squishing, cuts, tears or cracks in it, you need to replace this.

You want to start the threaded fitting into the filter byhand only, and just go ahead and tighten this up hand tight, making sure your line connection is stationary.

• Use your wrenches to tighten the filter portion of the connection only. Make sure your plastic connector lines up with the windows on the line and push it on should make a clicking noise.

• Your connections are done, so give that filter the wiggle test.
• This feel filter bracket was broken, so I chose heavy duty zip ties to secure this filter.

There you go.

• Your fuel filter replacement is complete.

Here’s the old external fuel filter.

• It’s the same typical filter found on most late model Chevrolet and GMC trucks.
• These are made of metal.
• There’s two connections, 1 in, one out And they label the out connection.
• Check your vehicle’s owner manual for proper time and mileage change intervals.

This is an easy fitness.
