TECH NOTES: WINDOW LIFT MOTORDORMAN 742-503 Power Window Motor

ATTENTION: Refer to the appropriate shop manual for your vehicle to obtain specifi c service procedures for this part. If you do not have a service manual or lack the skill to install this part, it is recommended that you seek the services of a qualifi ed technician.  Pay special attention to all cautions and warnings included in the shop manual. Read and follow all instructions carefully.

Various Model Cars & Trucks 1987–2005

This window lift motor is intended to fi t multiple applications. A direct fi t plug is included that will interface with the most popular vehicles. If the window lift motor that you are replacing has a connector that does not match the one included, you will need to  splice the original connector to the wires of the new motor. Simply cut the vehicle side of the connector off from the provided pigtail making sure to leave enough wire attached.
Using butt connectors, splice in needed pigtail from original motor making sure that the polarity is correct in order for the switch to operate properly.

If one or more threaded mounting holes on the motor that you are replacing are in a diff erent position on the new motor, you will need to move the threaded insert to the correct location. Follow instructions below.
Removal
STEP 1: From the back side of the motor (square gear facing away from you), bend the two metal tabs outward that secure the backing plate to the motor. Remove the metal backing plate. This will give you the clearance necessary to move the insert.
STEP 2: From the front side of the motor, thread an M6 bolt partially into the insert. Use a hammer to tap the metal insert out of the plastic retainer. Be careful not to break the plastic ear off of the motor.
STEP 3: To install the insert, unscrew the bolt from the insert and thread it back into the insert from the other direction. Tap the insert into the correct hole. Make sure to support the plastic ear that it does not break.
STEP 4: Replace the metal backing plate making sure to bend the metal tabs fi rmly into position with a hammer and a punch.
